Bindi control - Avoid prickles in your lawn this summer

Bindi is one of the most troublesome weeds of lawns. It produces a nasty seed burr or prickle which makes walking bare foot across infested lawns impossible. Bindi thorns are so sharp and strong that they can puncture bicycle tires.

Flowers begin to appear in lawns in spring however winter and early spring is generally the best time to spray bindi in lawns. It is important to get onto this early in the season as once the prickle spines form, prickles will remain in your lawn even if you kill the bindi plants.  Repeat spraying may be required to deal with any weeds germinating following the initial spraying.

Kamba* M or Broad Sweep herbicides are used by professionals and are the best products to use for bindi control in most lawns ( but not buffalo varieties). In addition to controlling bindi, these weed killers will also control a variety of broad leaf weeds including thistles, capeweed, oxalis, dandelion, and clover.

Weeds will generally be dead a few weeks after spraying.
Application is best made as a blanket spray (100% cover) to your lawn. Modern knapsack sprayers and nozzles can make this job a lot easier.
